February 28, 2021

When it comes to selecting furniture for Senior Living Design, there are many factors to consider in addition to style and aesthetic. Our team of designers created this reference guide with information and tips for specifying furniture in senior living projects.

This guide covers specifications for selecting furniture, like dimensions, fabric, and style, and also highlights some brands that we love here at Studio 1∙2∙1.

Flexibility

Oftentimes the common spaces in senior living communities are used for multiple functions, so the furnishings can be easily moved around.

Furniture is sometimes brought in from other rooms/areas, so providing continuity of design with style and color ensures that nothing looks out of place when larger functions are being held.

Style Guide

Our goal with any style or aesthetic is to create a space that makes residents feel comfortable and at home. Some of our clients prefer traditional style furnishings, others favor a more contemporary look, and everything in between.

Geographical location often informs style and finish. For example, furniture in Texas may have metal details like rivets or nailhead trim and stained wood tones with some distressing to convey a rustic style. In Florida, furnishings with details like caning and lighter wood tones or painted finishes provide a coastal look.
