Bring May Flowers

May 29, 2021

In Nashville, May is a notoriously unpredictable month of mugginess brushing up against Spring showers and bouts of premature humidity. But May 2021 has been a welcomed treat for a normally chaotic time of year. We’ve had it mild here in Music City, USA -- and it’s been marvelous!

And with gorgeous weather comes bright, cheerful, “look at me!” florals. We couldn’t end the month of May without doing a special blog dedicated to a seasonal staple for interior design.

Let’s BLOOM!

Faux | Real

There’s a longstanding debate on whether fake flowers have a home in interior design. While the jury’s still out, we can say without a shadow of a doubt representational florals are here to stay. Take a look at these floral wallpapers from Cupcakes and Cashmere. Blogger, Emily Schuman, showcases her revamped powder room...

Bed of Flowers

Inviting any kind of living flora or foliage into a space receives a resounding “Yes!” in interior design! Even without a green thumb, there are low maintenance ways to create an indoor Eden!

(AND, per our last blog, filling a space with living plants and flowers gives you major Feng Shui points!)

Symmetry

A design tip for incorporating real plants and florals: start buying in twos and fours. There is a beautiful balance when it comes to designing a space with natural accents.

Bring even more balance to the eye by “bookending” a couch with two vases, or using multiple floating plants on a single wall.

Unlikely Plant Friends

We consider anything that “flowers” to be a part of the flower family. Enter: succulents! A perfect low maintenance plant friend -- they bring effortless, timeless, chic energy to ANY space.

Honorable Mention: Murals

When in doubt, handpaint it out!

Being that we’re Nashville-based, we can’t resist plugging some of the incredible floral murals seen around Music City.

Quick Designer Tips:

  • Trade out dried flowers for fresh ones (another Feng Shui practice)

  • A good flower arrangement deserves good lighting

  • Representational flowers (wallpaper, handpainted) are as good as the real thing

In short, the only wrong way to bring florals into a space is to not bring them in at all. We hope this floral roundup encouraged you to bring on the flora and bloom where you’re planted! 🌸
